Appalachian Gold is a junior drum and bugle corps based in Summersville, West Virginia that was founded in 2017.
During the summer of 2017 a group of drum corps fans were talking about the fact that there were no junior drum and bugle corps in West Virginia. Within weeks, they had begun the process of filing paperwork with the IRS and the WV Secretary of State's office to gain a non-profit incorporation for a new corps. They elected a Board of Directors and hired a Corps Director and a Director of Education. They began talking to instrument manufacturers, and they kept doing all the myriad little things that needed to be done to start the Appalachian Brass Drum and Bugle Corps on the path to becoming a reality.
In the summer of 2018, Appalachian Gold will be fielding a brass ensemble to represent the corps at local performances, and to compete at Drum Corps International's (DCI) SoundSport events. The unit will be performing several drum corps standards along with the anthems of the state of West Virginia and the United States.
Appalachian Gold's plans are to move to DCI's Open Class in 2019.
