Jim O’Brien contacted Ed Gebauer and he accepted the Manager’s job along with himself. The Corps was active from 1972 to 1980.
The Corps competed in the CYO, Greater New England and Mayflower Circuits. The Corps also developed a great parents organization In 1974 the Corps won the CYO
championship as a class “C”.
In 1975 the Corps started a feeder Corps called “The Drifters”. There was almost 200 members between the 2 Corps. In 1975 the Renegades competed as class “B” and placed in every show except one. They had 114 members and went to Canada in 1974 and 1975.
In 1975 they won 5 first place trophies in Canada. That’s a trip no one will forget because they ended in the hospital in Vermont, at 2:00 A M in the morning. Doctors said it was some kind of food poisoning and the excitement of the trip. Everyone that was sick got a shot to calm them on the road home.
The Corps also got help getting started from the Senior Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps Manager Ed Gaff. Most of the instructors came from the Senior Corps.
In 1976 the Renegade Jr. Corps went to Philadelphia to compete in the DCI championships. It was a great trip and they stayed at a motel in New Jersey. For 6 days it only cost each member $50.00 for the trip and many a friendship was made.
In 1977, their uniform were changed and also had 3 tympani drums stolen out of the equipment bus. They lost their Manager Ed Gebauer, who passed away in October of 1977.
In 1978 they tried class “A” but, lost a lot of members going to The Boston Crusaders.
In 1979 they went back to class “B” and merged the Renegade Jrs and Drifters but, so many left and problems arose that it was unable to continue. In 1980 the Corps went inactive.
There has been 1 reunion and some have expressed interest in
another. In the first reunion there were about 300 people. In the nine years or so, there has been about 800 people to pass through this corps.
