The Daurice Vigilantes drum and bugle corps was originally organized in 1950 as the Daurice Cowgirls, a baton and twirling unit and was sponsored by the Daurice School of Music and Dance in Hyde Park.
They sported a western theme and wore cowboy outfits “a la Roy Rogers” and expanded their program the following season as a drum and bugle corps. In 1952, the corps incorporated boys in the program and became the Daurice School drum corps as members of the Eastern Massachusetts (E-Mass) circuit, placing 3rd in the “Straight Marching Parade Class” and was also a member of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) circuit.
The Daurice School entered the field of competition, placing 2nd in the 1953 CYO “Junior Class” and was renamed the Daurice Vigilantes in 1954 as they moved up to the “Class B” division in both the E-Mass and CYO circuits. They were crowned the 1954 CYO champions and finished in 2nd position in the E-Mass championships. The Hyde Park group won the 1955 E-Mass “Class B” title and competed in the VFW Nationals, where they placed 10th in the preliminary round.
They disbanded in 1956.
