The Abram K. Street VFW Post 411 drum and bugle corps of Philadelphia was formed in 1937.
They began competing in 1938 and made quite a name for themselves when they defeated the current VFW state champions in October of that year. The next season saw the corps travel to Boston as they participated at the VFW Nationals and were crowned the 1940 New York World Fair champions. They also finished 5th at the PA VFW state championships.
In 1941, the corps won the state championships before suspending activities during World War II. Upon return from the war, the then current members of “A.K. Street Post Junior Corps” were offered an option: they could march with the veterans, but only for parades and exhibitions.
A small number of veterans, standing members of the junior corps made plans to reorganize as a senior corps. This would become the foundation of the Reilly Raiders.
