The Ambassadors drum and bugle corps was initially formed as the Golden Antlers in the fall of 1964 and sponsored by the Benevolent and Protective Order (BPO) of Elks 1311 of Willimantic, under the direction of Henry Adamo.

The corps entered the field of competition as members of the Yankee circuit. In their first three seasons, they competed in the “Class B” division and in 1968, reorganizing as the Ambassadors,  jumped
to “Class A1” competition.
There they were finalists, placing 5th in 1968 and 1969. The following season saw the corps progress to a 4th place finish.

In 1971, the Ambassadors fused into the Surfers organization, sharing in the 1971 World Open “Class B” championship.
