The Incognito drum & bugle corps was initially formed in the fall of 2004 as a percussion ensemble that competed in the Southern California Percussion Alliance, the American Drum Line Association, and Winter Guard International percussion circuits.
From Norwalk, the unit was the brainchild of composer, visual designer, percussion, brass instructor, and corps director Tony T. Nguyen. The corps name was chosen to reflect the importance of focusing on the music and performance and not the individual. In 2006, they added brass to the indoor ensemble and in the fall of 2007 a winter guard was added to the mix, competing in the Winter Guard Association of Southern California and Winter Guard International.
Incognito’s inaugural season of field competition in 2008 reached 52 members with an average age of 17 years old, placing 6th in the “Open Class” division of the California State Open. Relocating to Orange, the 2009 corps was in 7 California shows and left the state for the first time with a weekend tour to New Mexico and Arizona, once again finishing in 6th position in the CA State contest.
Although Incognito resumed activities until the 4th of July, economic conditions forced the corps to cancel its 2010 competitive season and take time to build a more stable financial base. After more than three seasons of inactivity, the corps reorganized in the fall of 2013 in Brea and re-entered the field of competition in 2014, as a member of the DCI “Open Class” division.
The corps competed regionally from 2014 to 2019, performing during the first month of the season, appearing annually in the Southern California Open championships, placing 7th (2017), 8th (2016) and 9th (2014-2015 & 2018-2019). They also participated in the 2018 Pacific Open contest, finishing in 10th position.
They disbanded in 2020.
