After the 1973 season, the St. Paul Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps had a dispute with the local Boy Scout council over sponsorship and decided to split with the Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts continued to sponsor a B-corps for a few more years.
To start 1974 the A corps merged with the Hilex Drum and Bugle Corps which was a parade unit sponsored by the Hilex Bleach company of St Paul. There was no name for the newly merged corps and in 1974 they marched as the St. Paul Drum and Bugle Corps.
The St. Paul Drum and Bugle Corps marched in a dark blue one-piece uniform. Because of the uniform color the corps changed its name to the Blue Knights.
There was a major shake up after the 1978 season and many members left. The Blue Knights of St. Paul, MN disbanded by the end of 1979.
