In the fall of 1986, some of the instructional staff and members of the Cavaliers left to form the organization "Allegiance, A Marching Brass Ensemble" and Calgary then had two competitive groups, including the Cavaliers.
Allegiance drum and bugle corps was established, making its first uniform appearance at the famous 1987 Calgary Stampede Parade.
The unit competed at the DCI “Class A” championships for three years, finishing 12th in 1987, 14th the following year and finally placing in 9th position in 1989, their most successful season.
In the fall of 1989, the Allegiance Executive Director met with the Cavaliers organization regarding the possibility of merging to form one group. From these discussions, Allegiance Elite was born.
