The Hurricanes drum and bugle corps was originally formed in 1964 as the Freemen of Fall River, under the leadership of Vasco A. Pavao.
The corps was a member of the Rhode Island circuit, competing within the “Class C” division in 1965 & 1966 and was crowned the 1967 “Class B-2” champions. The Freemen competed in the 1968 World Open “Class B” preliminary round, placing 20th and was renamed the Hurricanes the following season, joining the Mayflower circuit in 1969. From 1970 to 1975, the Fall River unit remained quietly active between parades & competitions.
They disbanded in 1976.
