The Brassmen drum and bugle corps was formed in December of 1975 and originally sponsored by the Cape Coral Volunteer Firemen’s Association, under the direction of Bill Adams.

In their inaugural season, the corps performed in exhibition at the 1976 Florida American Legion (AL) state championships as well as several events over the course of the summer. In 1977, they entered the field of competition, participating at the FL AL state championships, finishing 3rd and toured in the Midwest, competing at the US Open “Class A” prelims, placing 14th. They also competed as members of the Mid-America circuit.

In 1978, under the direction of John W. Harlow, the corps had planned an ambitious year of competition built on a staff that included Scott Director as music arranger, assisted by Dale Winzenread, Rich Morales on percussion and Harold Blankership on guard. The corps finished 3rd once again at the FL AL state contest and were scheduled to return on tour comprising of Midwest competitions, the US Open and the American International Open. Unfortunately, the corps was unable to participate.

From 1979 through to 1981, the corps stayed active in local parades and events but disbanded in 1982.
