In the fall of 1969, the 27th Lancers Juniors drum and bugle corps of Norwood was formed through a merger of the Norwood Continentals and their feeder corps, the Cavaliers.
They in turn became a feeder corps for the 27th Lancers, supported by 27th’s instructional staff and members. In the fall of 1970, the corps broke away from the 27th Lancer organization and changed its name to the 21st Lancers.
They participated over the years in the Eastern Massachusetts, the Greater New England and Mayflower circuits. 21st was a perennial participant at the World Open championships, first competing in the “Class B” division from 1972 to 1975 and graduating to the “Class A” division in 1976, ironically finishing in 21st position and returning in 1977, finishing in 18th place.
The corps disbanded in 1978.
