In 1982, the Arbella "coed" drum and bugle corps of Salem was formed when the decision was taken for the “All Girls” corps to accept boys into the group.
An image change and a powerful program helped the new Arbella go on to win the US Open “Class A” title and string a series of 2nd place finishes at the American International, DCI Midwest and Key to the Sea Open championships.
They culminated the year with a 4th place finish at the DCI “Class A” championships finals. During 1983 competitive season, Arbella made the finals at both the American International “Open Class”, placing 9th and the Key to the Sea “Class A”, placing 7th. They also appeared at the US Open “Class A” preliminaries with a 21st place finish.
By 1984, the corps had succumbed to financial pressures and disbanded.
