The Commanders drum and bugle corps was formed in 1975 and sponsored by the American Legion Post 1682 of New City, under the leadership of Frank Donovan.
The corps was active as an "All-Age" parade and exhibition unit from 1976 to 1978, competing in the American Heritage Circuit and the Musical Alliance Association (MAA). They reorganized as a junior corps in 1979, winning the 1979 New York State American Legion Parade champions. They joined the Garden State Circuit (GSC) in 1980 and entered the field of competition over the next three seasons competing in the GSC “Open Class” division, placing 8th (1980), 6th (1981) and 12th (1982).
The Commanders merged with the Mounties of Paramus to form the Connection in 1983.
