The California Crusaders drum & bugle corps was formed in 1970 through a merger between the Ambassadors of Lakewood and the Royal Guardsmen of Carson. They were sponsored by the South Gate American Legion (AL) Post 335.
The corps competed at the AL Nationals in 1970, placing 15th in the preliminaries in Portland and remained a local unit for the rest of their competitive existence that included a 5th place finish at the VFW state “Class A” championships. In the spring of 1974, the Crusaders performed at the National Orange standstill competition, placing 3rd but were unable to field a corps that summer.
They disbanded in 1975.
