The 7th Regiment drum & bugle corps was formed in 2002 by alumni of the Surfers and took its name from one of the last units to leave for the Civil War from Fort Trumbull.

The corps was the first competitive junior corps to represent the state of Connecticut since 1983.
They presented their debut performance in March 2004, in the New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade and entered “Division III” competition that summer. The following year, 7th competed at the DCI “Division III” championships, returning once again in 2006.

In 2007, the corps competed locally. That year, the championships were held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. In a fortuitous decision, the corps leadership determined that going way out west would be too expensive and opted to save the money. The decision proved prudent as this happened right on the verge of the Great Recession that severely damaged the drum corps activity along with so much more.

They returned to DCI in 2008, attaining the semifinals of the “Open Class” division with a 17
th place finish. 7th Regiment attended the DCI World Championships every year to date.

From 2009 to 2013, the 7
th Regiment had qualified as an “Open Class” finalist, improving in the rankings throughout this period, ranging from 11th to 5th position. The 96-member 2014 corps finished 5th in “Open Class” and 25th in “World Class”, which earned full DCI membership. Although the corps had continued to grow in size, that was its best finish to date.

From 2015 to 2019, the Regiment was a consistent DCI “Open Class” finalist with finishes ranging from 6
th to 8th position. Through 2019, 7th Regiment advanced eleven consecutive years.

The 2020 season was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The corps was also inactive during the non-competitive 2021 season, returning to the field in 2022 to continue its string of “Open Class” finals appearances with an 11
th place finish and an 8th place finish in 2023.
