Bayou City Blues

The Bayou City Blues was founded in the summer of 1991 by a group of dedicated drum corps fans who wanted to bring the drum corps activity to the Houston area. They started out with five horn players.

The corps was active around Houston, performing in parades and giving standstill performances. In 1994, the corps began touring through the Midwest during the Fourth of July holidays, performing in parades in various midwestern cities and even entered the field of competition during their tour. They also performed at the 1995 Freedom Festival in Milwaukee before 500,000 spectators.

The corps was known for its small but powerful horn lines and its entertaining performances of Texas-style music. The year 2000 saw their first and only performance in DCA “Class A” competition Finals, also their first year to have a color guard, where they gave a strong, well-received debut, placing third in the finals. The corps also brought a highly entertaining mini-corps to DCA's Individual & Ensemble Competition over the years.

In the summer of 2003, it was decided that Bayou City Blues should go temporarily inactive, fusing into Gulf Coast Sound. Although there were a few attempts to reorganize, the corps went inactive
until 2015, when they returned to parade status, remaining active until 2017.

They disbanded in 2018.
