In 1968, the 507 Hornets drum & bugle corps was originally formed as the Holts Hornets and based out of Clifton Heights as a parade corps.
The following year, they received sponsorship from the American Legion John Wesley Cross Post No. 507 of Norwood and became the 507 Hornets. They entered the field of competition in 1970 as members of the Eastern States Circuit (ESC). In 1971, the corps finished in the “Top 10” at the ESC championships, moving up to the “Top 3” the following season.
The 1973 season was a successful one for the Hornets with an impressive 12th place finish at the World Open “Class A” championships and a “Top 3” repeat at the ESC. The following year, 507 returned to the World Open, finishing in 18th position.
In the fall of 1974, the 507 Hornets merged with the Keystone Regiment of Newtown Square to form the Crossmen.
