The Catholic Daughters of America (CD of A), formed in September 1936, was an “All-Girls” drum and bugle corps. They were sponsored by the Junior Catholic Daughters of America, Court Butler 443. The corps’ colors were Kelly green and white.
Awards included the 1961-64 PA State Firemen’s “Parade Class” championships, and the 1961 VFW State “Parade Class” championships. In 1965, after several years of parade and exhibition performances, CD of A entered the field of competition. The first two years of competition saw the corps appear at the VFW Nationals, placing 52nd in 1965 and 46th in 1966. The corps also participated in several state contests including the 1965-66 PA AL (3rd), the 1966 PA VFW (4th), 2nd place finishes at both the AL and VFW state championships and the 1969 PA VFW (2nd).
In 1967, the Butler unit placed 6th at both the Eastern States circuit championships and the World Open “Class B” finals, their only appearance in the Massachusetts event. They were the first corps to win both the US Open “Class A” and “All-Girls” titles in the same contest in 1968.
From that point until 1978, the corps was a perennial competitor in the US Open “All-Girls” division, where they competed in the preliminaries, finishing between 3rd to 8th position over the years, the 1970 edition standing as their highest ranking, 3rd place. From 1973 to 1978, for the exception of 1975, CD of A competed at the American International Open championships as co-sponsors, participating in the “All-Girls” prelims, placing between 4th to 7th in that span. The corps also sponsored "The Festival of Champions" at the Butler Stadium.
They disbanded in 1979.
