The Cadets of Brooklyn drum & bugle corps was originally formed as the First Baptist Cadets by the First Baptist church of Crown Heights in the fall of 1995. The corps launched a recruiting campaign drive form the Sherwood Village and Lefrak housing developments.

Over the years, the corps competed in the “Division III” class and in their inaugural year, placed 5th at the 1996 Garden State Circuit (GSC) championships. The following year, they competed at the North American Open regionals, finishing 25th in the prelims on their way to a 34th place finish at the 1997 DCI championships. They ended the season in 6th position at the GSC.

In the fall of 1997, the corps was renamed the Cadets of Brooklyn and expanded their tour with appearances in the prelims of the Garden State Open (12th), the North American Open (20th), the DCI championships (24th), culminating with the 1998 GSC “Division III” title. The Cadets returned to regional competition as participants in the prelims of the Garden State Open (14th), the Canadian Open (16th), the US Coast Guard Open (22nd) , the North American Open (22nd) before their final performance at the DCI championships, once again placing 24th.

In 2000, the corps merged with the Kips Bay Knight Club of the Bronx to form the Cadets of New York City.
