The Citations drum & bugle corps was formed in the fall of 1965 under the direction of Robert C. O’Neil.

The corps used green uniforms with black pants and black berets in their first years, performing as a parade corps in 1966. The following season saw the corps enter the field of competition as members of the Mayflower and participated at the 1968 Internationals circuit championships, placing 3rd in the “Class C” division. That year, they Citations took to the field of competition with a new uniform consisting of white tops with red pants with shakos.

In 1969, the corps qualified in the Mayflower “Class C” finals, finishing 5th and remained competitive within the circuit over the next 3 years, winning the 1971 Yankee “Class C” circuit championships. The corps lost their leader, Bob O’Neil, who passed away suddenly in November of 1970. The Citations seeded in the 1973 “Class B” circuit finalist, placing 5th. In 1974, they competed at the
National level for the first time, participating at the World Open “Class B” preliminaries, where they finished 19th and moved up to a 4th position in the Mayflower finals.

In 1975, the corps returned to the World Open “Class B” prelims, placing 24th and continued as a Mayflower “Class B” finalist that year and in 1976, finishing 4th, their last appearance in the circuit. The following year, the Burlington unit joined the Eastern Massachusetts (E Mass) circuit, competing within the “Class B” division and resumed competition at the 1978 World Open “Class B” prelims, where they finished in 30th position closing out the season at the “Battle of Champions”, where they placed
11th in “Class B” action.

From 1979 to 1984, the Citations participated at several other “Class A” championships including the American International Open (1979 - 14th - prelims, 1980 - 22nd - prelims, 1983 - 8th - finals,

As recurring members of the E Mass circuit, the corps participated in the “Class A2” division from 1980 to 1982, the latter finishing in 2nd position and moved up to the “Class A” division from 1983 to 1986, where they placed between 2nd and 3rd position for the exception of 1985, when they won the title. From 1995 to 1999, the corps also returned to DCI championship contests, where they ranked between 30th (1995) to 9th (1999) in the prelims.
