The Envoys drum and bugle corps was originally formed in 1965 by Jimmy Alexander, George Garrison and Russ (Bud) Gasking, former members of the Ambassadors senior corps of Newburgh, as the Goodwill Ambassadors, supported by the Good Will Dire Department of Newburgh.
These three individuals pooled their funds to purchase equipment as the corps began its journey from 1966 to 1968 as a parade unit, originally sporting the old Criterions senior corps uniforms and was renamed the Envoys during this same period. The Newburgh group entered the field of competition, participating in the 1969 World Open “Class B” preliminaries and received an influx of members in 1971 from the William Deakin American Legion Post 158 parade corps. The Envoys remained competitive as members of the 1973 & 1974 Pathfinder circuit.
They disbanded in 1975.
