The Empereurs drum and bugle corps was formed on September 22nd,1962 and was sponsored by the St. Léonard Police department’s Juvenial Club, under the leadership of Alphonse Leroux.
After a prosperous season of parades and exhibitions in their inauguralyear, the corps took the next step as a field competitor, participating in several contests in preparation for their first appearance in the 1964 Québec provincials. Among them, the popular Shawinigan Festival, placing 3rd, the Metropolitain contest sponsored by the CJMS radio station, winning top honors and the infamous Gala National in Montréal. Finally, the corps made its mark in the provincial championships, placing 2nd in the “Class A” division and took home the “high brass” award.
The following two years saw the corps, sporting their dark blue and white uniforms with a gold sash and gold plumed shako, compete within the province, culminating their 1965 & 1966 Québec provincial championships with 3rd and 4th place finishes respectively. Their instructional staff over the years included, Richard Dion (Brass), Jacques Martin (percussion) and Yves Giguère (visual) and Yves Lafrenière.
They disbanded in 1967.
