In 1975, the Optimist Lancers of Etobicoke’s future looked grim until the Optimist Cadets of Scarborough graciously offered to merge their unit with what remained of the Lancers and the Cadet Lancers drum and bugle corps was born.

The two separate corps merged together quite well although there were some rough spots and "ruffled feathers" as the two became one; not unlike any typical merger. The corps kept both types of uniforms with the brass line maintaining the Optimist Cadet style with shakos complete with white plumes while the drum line and color guard went with the Lancer style uniforms.

That year, they competed as members of the Ontario Drum Corps Association (ODCA) and were crowned the 1975 “Canada C Circuit” champions and finished 2nd in the “Class C” division at both the Ontario provincials and Canadian National championships. They also won the Canadian Nationals street parade competition.

The 1976 version of the Cadet Lancers, with 98 members, presented a dynamic new show designed by Jack Roberts with music arrangements by Doug Keenan. That year, they won the Canadian Nationals “Class C” competition and were runner-up at the “Canada C Circuit”. The corps also repeated as Canadian Nationals street parade champions.

In the fall of 1976, the two units separated and the Optimist Lancers merged once again with the Oakland Crusaders parade corps in 1977 to form the Etobicoke Knights.
