"St. Ignatius announces 1982 repertoire
The St. Ignatius Girls of Hicksville, NY, are ready for another season, with members ranging in age from 10-19. The corps, founded in 1958 by Thomas R. Costa, is incorporated in the Town of Oyster Bay, L.I., NY, and has become famous throughout the U.S. and Canada for its unique brand of feminine sparkle and military snap.
The 1982 St. Ignatius show features Lady off the line, followed by Evolution Orange and Billy the Kid. A percussion solo of Dayride leads into Time, followed by a second drum solo, Artistry in Percussion. The show closes with America.
The director and business manager for St. Ignatius is Don Graziose. Brass arrangement and instruction is by Hy Dreitzer, assisted by Tom Martin. Jim Drost handles percussion arrangements and shares the percussion instruction duties with Jim Oddo, assisted by Mark Holub and Don Quinn. Color guard arrangement and instruction is handled by Gail DeAngelis. Chief instructor Carmen Cluna teaches M&M and has charge of the overall show presentation.
Leading the corps on the field are drum majors Diane Valente and Diane Guadagno. Color guard captain is Justine Wieman assisted by Joanne Riley. Horn sergeant is Chris Sweeney, and drum sergeant is Lorri Mansfield.
St. Ignatius claims more awards and titles than any other all-girl corps. They were the World Open all-girl champions in 1972-78, 1980 and 1981; DCI all-girl champions in 1975-77; Girls Corps International champions in 1976. '77 and '80; and DCI East Class A champions in 1981. They hold many other titles and honors.
The corps, a member of the Garden State Circuit, is sponsored by the Nassau County Republican Committee; the Plaza at Mid Island Merchants Association; and the joint efforts of the members, the corps Bingo Committee and St. Ignatius Girls Cadet Corps Parents/Booster Association."
