The Emerald Knights drum and bugle corps was formed in the fall 1981, as the Emerald Cadets of Mississauga.

In their inaugural year, the corps performed as a parade unit and entered the field competition the next season as members of the Ontario Drum Corps Association, winning the 1983 Canadian Nationals “Class C” championships, moving up to the “Class B” division and placing 7th in the 1984 Nationals “Class B” preliminaries. They improved to 3rd in the 1985 Nationals and won the 1986 “Class B” title under their name, the Emerald Knights. That year saw the corps participate in the DCI Canada “Open Class” prelims, finishing in 23rd place and a 4th place finish in the 1987 DCI Canada “Class A/60” division along with the Ontario provincial “Class B” title and 2nd place in the Canadian Nationals “Class B”.

The Knights went inactive the following summer and reactivated as a parade unit, winning the 1989 Canadian Nationals “Parade Class”. They performed in their first DCI championship, with a 16th place finish in the 1990 preliminaries, a 20th position in the DCI Canada “Open Class” prelims and regained their Nationals “Class B” title. They repeated the same feat at both the 1991 DCI Canada and Canadian Nationals and made their first appearance in the 1992 Canadian Open “Division III” preliminary round, placing 13th. They completed the season 21st in the DCI “Division III” prelims and 3rd in the Nationals “Class A/60”, repeating their 3rd place in the Nationals finish the following year.

From 1994 to 2000, the Emerald Knights appeared in the DCI “Division III” preliminaries annually, placing as low as 14th in 1996 & 1999, the Canadian Open “Division III” prelims from 1994 to 1998, placing between 9th to 17th during that span and the Canadian Nationals “Division III”, finishing 2nd twice (1994 & 1999), 3rd twice (1998 & 2000) and 4th (1995-1997). The corps also participated in the 1999 Garden State Open with a 6th place finish, missing out on a finalist spot by less than a point and the  1996 North American Open regionals, where they finished 13th in the prelims. After another season of inactivity, the Knights reorganized as a parade corps, winning the Canadian Nationals “Division IV - Parade Class” title, remaining active until 2004.

They disbanded in 2005.
