The Cavaliers drum and bugle corps was active since at least 1933, originally as the Rome VFW Post 2246.
They performed in parades and exhibition and also participated in NY VFW state conventions, competing from at least 1937 to 1941, placing 2nd in the “Closed Division” in 1937 and 1938 and sported new white trimmed uniforms with gold braid and tall plumed hats in 1940.
The corps went inactive in 1946, reorganizing as the Cavaliers in 1951, returning to parade status until 1969, for the exception of 1964, when the corps went inactive for that season.
They disbanded in 1970.
